CANDIDATES FOR DIRECTOR OF EXTERNAL RELATIONS

  • The Director of External Relations is responsible for keeping the board of directors informed on any issues arising at JIBC that may impact our members. They are also responsible for ensuring that the JISUs opinions and positions are being articulated to JIBC administration.

  • Fellow students, my name is Jessica Lamb, and I am in my fourth semester of the LESD program. Over the past year and a half, I have served on your JISU Board of Directors as New Westminster Campus Representative for one semester, and as your current Director of External Relations for the past year. During this time, JISU has reached many milestones. We elected the largest Board of Directors we have ever seen, piloted new events and services such as Valo-grams, Spill the Tea, the campus Easter Egg hunt, end of year carnival, and we have elected a Director to the BCFS Executive. Should I be re-elected, I will continue to push for our current initiatives, including the U-Pass, student utilization of the gym, and more student representation on the Board of Governors. Remember when you hit the polls, this Lamb is not sheepish!

CANDIDATES FOR DIRECTOR OF INTERNAL RELATIONS

  • The Director of Internal Relations works with the Union staff to create an annual budget, keeps the Board of Directors informed on issues regarding the finances of the Union, and ensures members’ money is being spent wisely.

  • Over the past year, I’ve had the privilege of serving as your Director of Internal Relations, where I helped jumpstart the U-Pass initiative and advocated for affordable post-secondary education. I’ve worked to defend your rights as students and ensure that services supporting your success are accessible.

During this time, I had the opportunity to sit in on the Board of Governors meeting as an observer and realized the lack of student representation. In response, I worked alongside the Director of External Relations to advocate for a permanent student voice at the table.

If re-elected, I will continue this work and introduce student clubs at JIBC. I’ll also ensure your voices are heard at JIBC Board of Governor Meetings, advocating for real action on the issues that matter most to you.

I believe in leading with integrity, advocacy, respect, and excellence. Together, we can continue building a strong and dynamic campus community.

  • Hello! I’m Shikha, a second-year PBDLES student and one of the MHA at the JIBC. I have practical experience in the legal field, including managing finances, conducting research, and drafting pleadings. During my time at the AIL, Mohali was actively involved in the moot court society, where I helped manage competitions and secure funding resulting in more moot court competitions for students, thereby giving them more exposure to how actual court works in real life.

As a MHA, I work to support the student's well-being through events, and workshops. As an ambassador, I am also a safe person on site to support students with their mental health challenges as I have been trained for this through safeTalk, and MHFA training. This role has given me valuable insights into student needs and challenges, deepening my commitment to improving student life.

I’m running for Director of Internal Relations to help enhance financial management and support JISU’s initiatives. My experience and direct connection with students make me a strong candidate for this position.

I am super excited for this opportunity and to bring my experience and passion to JISU.

Together, we can make a real difference!

    Thank you for your support

CANDIDATES FOR DIRECTOR OF EVENTS

  • The Director of Events works with the Union staff to plan events for members throughout the year.

  • My name is Harmeet Singh Gill. I am currently enrolled in the Law Enforcement Studies diploma program at JIBC. I am currently a New West campus representative with JISU, where I help organize various events such as Welcome Back, Diwali, Eid, Halloween, and Stress Buster Day. I enjoy interacting with students during events organized by JISU.

I have been volunteering at the Strathcona Community Policing Centre for the past 4 months, helping organize events such as the Strathcona Block Watch Party, Story Time with Kids, the Moosehide Campaign, and the Lotus Light Festival. I was partially involved in the planning and organization of these events at the Strathcona CPC.

I can communicate with students at events in English, Hindi, and Punjabi. I enjoy planning and organizing events. I have been running the tea cart service with the help of JISU. While running the tea cart throughout the JIBC campus, I had the chance to interact with different groups of students. They often requested suggestions for future events that JISU could organize.

If I become the Director of Events, I will put my best efforts into planning and organizing events.

  • Greetings!

I'm excited to run for JISU New West Campus Representative because I believe we have the power to create a truly amazing learning environment together. As a lawyer, I've seen firsthand the importance of advocacy and justice. I'm bringing that passion to JISU to ensure every student feels valued and supported. Beyond my legal background, I'm a huge believer in the power of community. Whether volunteering at elections or simply hanging out with friends, I love connecting with people from all walks of life.

If I’m chosen as the representative, I'll focus on connecting students, faculty, and staff to create a stronger sense of community, which I feel currently lacks. I’d work towards ensuring everyone feels included and respected, regardless of their background, and support students' well-being through accessible resources and a positive campus culture. I love dragonflies, mountains, and skateboarding, and as random as that sounds, that's the kind of fresh perspective and a spirit of innovation that I'd bring to JISU New West. Looking forward to working with everyone to create a campus that's not just a place to learn, but a place to grow and thrive.

    -Aakritee

    (Or simply, Tee)
